Soon to officially be a full-time affiliate
By · CommentsThat’s right, it is finally happening. After 3 years of hard work virtually every evening and weekend I am finally making the step to being a full-time affiliate!
I handed in my notice at my full-time job a few weeks ago and will be officially self-employed as a full-time affiliate from 1st November.
So how am I feeling? Scared? Yes. Excited? Yes. In fact, pretty much every emotion and you can bet I am feeling it!
It is a huge step and one that could either go drastically wrong and spectacularly right – only time will tell.
I must apologise for not updating the blog in such a long time but there has been so much to sort out that is has been difficult finding time to update my money-making sites let alone this one!
So, unfortunately I do not have time to do a longer post but hopefully from November I will be able to. In the mean time Ill keep planning and sorting everything I need to and Ill be back in a couple of weeks.

Well, shame on me – it has been a good couple of months since I updated you all. That doesn’t mean I haven’t been doing much – in fact the opposite is true. I have had so much going on it has been hard to find time to update things.

Ok so Im having a little break from doing my affiliate accounting tonight and I thought I would share with you something that is very important.
RISK MANAGEMENT.
Without this I wouldn’t even be considering becoming a full-time affiliate. You see being an affiliate (part or full-time) is risky.
If you rely only on traffic from Google organic search results and then one day you get a penalty your business can quickly start losing money.
Equally if you rely on PPC and then the goalposts are moved or some big competitors start outbidding you then again you suffer.
The secret is to mitiagate your risk in everything you do. You have heard the phrase ‘never put all your eggs in one basket’ right? Well this has never been more true than in affiliate marketing.

Affiliate Accounts and PayPal

Just a quick update today to let you know how I got on with the accounting at the weekend.
It was a bit of a slow process as I hadnt done the accounts for April so had to go through and fine all the relevant receipts and everything. It also raised a question with PayPal too. Am I supposed to take off the PayPal fees when I receive money?
Previously I have always netted off any PayPal income and just shown the money that gets paid in to my account disregarding the fee. However it turns out this was slightly incorrect. I called my accountant and got told that when doing affiliate accounts with PayPal you need to show in your profit and loss the gross income coming in, and add the fees in as an expenditure. Affiliate Accounting: Does tax have to be taxing?

Wow it’s baking hot today! Im currently sat in my home office with the sun glaring though the uncovered window as it has been all afternoon.
I don’t want to complain about the sun because I do love it when it’s hot – however Im still putting the finishing touches to my home-office and have yet to put up the new window blind that arrived a few days ago. Todays heat has definately told me I need to do that this weekend because I cant work for long in this heat!
Speaking of things I need to do tomorrow, I have been speaking to my accountant and he has suggested that since I plan on going full-time it’s even more vitally important that all of my accounts are in order.
Therefore tomorrow I will start the unenviable task of going back through my accounts for the last year and tracking down any missing invoices and receipts.
I don’t like doing it but it has to be done.
Speaking of accounting, if you are earning affiliate income and not yet started proper accounting processes then I suggest you start now – it will save you a lot of time in the long run.

The Journey to Becoming a Full-Time Affiliate

Its 4.30pm on a bank holiday afternoon. The typical bank holiday for a part-time affiliate – stuck behind a computer screen trying to find the next magic idea to make a fortune.
It is my dream to become a full-time affiliate and I have constructed this blog to track my progress towards the better life I imagine for myself in the future.
Along the way I hope to entertain, inform and hopefully inspire you. If you are considering becoming a full-time affiliate or dream of one day being able to make that choice then this site is for you.
Currently I am emplyed as an affiliate manager for a UK-based affiliate network, I have been since 2006. However, I have also been running my own affiliate sites in this time and have slowly built them up (working all kinds of unsociable hours!) to matching and even beating my full-time salary. The time has come for me to decide WHEN I will become a full-time affiliate – it’s no longer a case of ‘if’.
This blog will track my thoughts, the problems I encounter, and the steps I take to ensure I not only become a full-time affiliate but also a successful one.
It’s a scary thought, sacrificing a good job that you enjoy for an unguaranteed income. However, it’s also an extremely exciting one.
